Broadband Full-duplex Operation of Antenna Systems using Analog Photonic Remoting Links with Low Intrinsic Noise Figure

We report achieving a noise figure of 5.7 dB at 12 GHz in an amplifierless photonic receive link. This result enables a new transmit/receive interface called TIRx (TransmitIsolating Receiver) that isolates the transmit and receive signal paths by ≥ 40 dB over > 3 decades of bandwidth, allowing an antenna to receive small signals while simultaneously transmitting high-power signals through the same antenna.
